TCM Buying Guide – Transmission Control Module

The Transmission Control Module (TCM) controls your automatic transmission’s shifting. When it fails, you may experience harsh shifts, stuck gears, or transmission warning lights.

Signs Your TCM Needs Replacement

  • Transmission stuck in one gear (limp mode)
  • Harsh or delayed shifting
  • Check Engine Light with transmission codes (P0700, P0715, etc.)
  • Transmission slipping or not engaging
  • Vehicle won’t shift out of Park

Common TCM Part Numbers

GM vehicles commonly use these TCM types:

  • T42 (4L60E/4L65E) – Common in trucks and SUVs
  • T43 (4L80E) – Heavy-duty applications
  • 6T70/6T75 – 6-speed front-wheel drive
