Is Your 2009 Traverse Stalling, Hesitating, or Refusing to Start?
If you’re dealing with frustrating engine performance issues like stalling at red lights, sputtering on acceleration, or a complete no-start condition, a failing Fuel Pump Control Module (FPCM) is the most likely culprit. In my 20+ years as a diagnostic tech, I’ve seen this exact part fail on hundreds of GM vehicles, especially the Traverse, Acadia, and Enclave. It’s often accompanied by the dreaded P069E trouble code stored in the computer.
A Real-World Scenario from My Shop
“A customer’s 2009 Traverse came in last week on a tow truck. It would crank but not start. They had already replaced the fuel pump, but the problem persisted. A quick scan showed code P069E. We located the original FPCM on the rear crossmember, and it was heavily corroded from road salt and moisture. After installing one of our pre-programmed modules, the Traverse fired right up and ran perfectly. They could have saved hundreds by starting with the FPCM first.”

Simple Installation Guide for your 2009 Traverse Fuel Pump Module
Replacing the FPCM on your Traverse is straightforward. It’s located on the rear crossmember, typically accessible from underneath the vehicle.
- Safety First: Disconnect the negative terminal from your vehicle’s battery.
- Locate the Module: Find the FPCM mounted to the rear crossmember, near the spare tire area.
- Disconnect Electrical Connector: Carefully press the release tab and pull the electrical harness away from the module. Inspect the connector for any corrosion or damage.
- Remove Old Module: Unbolt the module from the crossmember. It’s typically held on by two small bolts.
- Prepare Mounting Surface: Clean the mounting area on the crossmember to ensure a good, clean contact for the new module.
- Install New Module: Bolt the new, pre-programmed module into place and securely reconnect the electrical harness.
- Reconnect Battery: Re-attach the negative battery terminal. The vehicle is now ready to start.
