Restore Your Cadillac ELR’s Sophisticated Electronics
Driving a Cadillac ELR means appreciating advanced technology. But when the Body Control Module (BCM) starts to fail, that technology can become a source of major frustration. You might be dealing with flickering lights, power windows that have a mind of their own, or security system alerts that appear for no reason. As a technician with over two decades of experience, I’ve seen how a faulty BCM can turn a premium vehicle into a diagnostic nightmare. This isn’t just an inconvenience; it’s a breakdown in your car’s central nervous system.
This is a direct-fit replacement 2014-2016 ELR Body Control Module that solves these issues without the exorbitant costs and scheduling hassles of a dealership visit. We offer a unique mail-in programming service. Simply send us your original BCM, and we will transfer all the critical vehicle-specific data to this replacement unit. The module you receive back will be plug-and-play, already synced to your vehicle’s VIN, keys, and options. It’s the most efficient and reliable way to get your ELR performing flawlessly again.
A Technician’s Notebook: The ELR with a Ghost
A 2015 ELR came into the shop with a list of bizarre, intermittent problems. The interior lights would stay on, the driver’s door wouldn’t unlock with the fob, and occasionally, the car would throw a ‘Service Theft Deterrent System’ message. The owner had been to two other shops that couldn’t find the cause. After hooking up my scan tool, I saw multiple communication loss codes (U-codes) pointing to the BCM. These modules are the hub for dozens of systems. Instead of a costly new module and hours of programming, we used a cloned unit. The customer shipped us their original, we transferred the data, and sent the replacement back. The install took 30 minutes, and every single ghost in the machine was gone. It’s a perfect example of how the right part and process saves time, money, and headaches.
Common Signs of a Failing BCM
If your vehicle is experiencing any of the following, a failing BCM is a likely culprit. Confirming the part number 13580698 or a compatible alternative is the first step toward a solution.
- ✔ Power windows, door locks, or interior lights operating erratically or not at all.
- ✔ The security system or keyless entry is malfunctioning.
- ✔ Warning lights on the dashboard appear randomly (e.g., ABS, Airbag, Traction Control).
- ✔ Communication-related Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), particularly U-codes like U0140, U0155, or U0100.
- ✔ The horn, wipers, or other accessories work intermittently.
- ✔ In severe cases, a no-start condition where the vehicle does not recognize the key.

We then ship the programmed module back to you, typically within 1-2 business days, and provide you with tracking information. You get a part that’s ready for installation right out of the box.
Your Straightforward Installation Guide
Installing your programmed 2014-2016 ELR Body Control Module is a manageable job for a confident DIYer or any professional mechanic. The BCM on the ELR is typically located on the right-hand side, behind the cowl panel.
- Safety First: Always disconnect the negative terminal from your vehicle’s 12V battery and secure it away from the post to prevent accidental reconnection.
- Locate the Module: Access the BCM, which is situated on the right-hand (passenger) side of the cowl area. This may require removing trim panels for access.
- Disconnect and Remove: Carefully unplug the electrical connectors from the old BCM. Note their orientation. Then, unbolt the module from its mounting bracket and remove it from the vehicle.
- Install the New Module: Mount your newly programmed BCM onto the bracket and securely reconnect all electrical connectors. Ensure they click into place.
- Reconnect Power: Reattach the negative battery terminal. The vehicle’s core functions should now be restored.
Important Post-Installation Notes
While our programming handles the majority of the setup, some vehicle systems may require a final handshake after the new BCM is installed. Please be aware of the following:
- Airbag System Sync: If the airbag warning light is illuminated after installation, a ‘Setup SDM Primary Key in BCM’ procedure must be performed using a professional-grade diagnostic tool. This is only necessary if the light is on.
- Brake Pedal Position Relearn: On some models, a brake pedal position sensor recalibration might be needed to ensure correct brake light and traction control operation.
- No Core Charge: You are not required to return your old part to us after the service. There is no core charge.
Disclaimer: Vehicle systems vary. We always recommend consulting a factory service manual or a qualified technician if you are unsure about any step.
