A customer brought in his 2013 Silverado 2500 with a list of bizarre complaints. The dome light wouldn’t turn off, the driver’s side window was stuck down, and the ‘Service Security System’ message was always on. He’d already replaced the battery and checked fuses. After connecting my scan tool, I found a slew of ‘Lost Communication’ codes (U-codes) pointing back to the BCM. The module was intermittently failing, causing a communication breakdown on the data network. Instead of a costly diagnostic hunt, we installed a VIN-programmed BCM. The new module restored communication instantly, and all the strange electrical issues were gone. It’s a classic failure mode for these trucks.
