Real-World Repair Story
A customer brought in his 2007 Impala 3.9L with a complaint that stumped two other shops. The car would randomly lose power, the transmission would shift erratically, and the check engine light would flicker on and off with no stored codes. After checking all the usual suspects—grounds, wiring, sensors—I hooked up my scope to the ECM data lines. I noticed intermittent signal dropouts from the main processor, a classic sign of internal failure that a standard code reader often misses. We installed a VIN-programmed ECM, and the car has run flawlessly ever since. It’s a perfect example of how a failing 2007 Impala Engine Module can create ghost-like problems that only a direct replacement will solve.
