Tired of Chasing Electrical Gremlins in Your GM Truck or Van?
If you’re dealing with flickering lights, a security system that acts up, power windows with a mind of their own, or other strange electrical behavior in your GM vehicle, you’re not alone. After 20+ years in the garage, I’ve seen these exact issues hundreds of times. More often than not, the culprit isn’t a dozen different bad switches or wires—it’s a failing Body Control Module (BCM). The BCM is the central command center for your vehicle’s body electronics, and when it starts to go, it can cause a cascade of frustrating and hard-to-diagnose problems. This is the reliable, cost-effective solution you’ve been looking for.
This isn’t just a replacement part; it’s a complete fix. We take a quality-tested BCM and program it specifically to your vehicle’s VIN using the latest GM software updates. This means it arrives at your door ready to install, saving you a costly trip to the dealership for programming. You get a dependable part that restores full functionality without the hassle. This is the smart way to get your truck or van back to 100%.
From the Diagnostic Bay
I remember a 2006 Silverado 2500 that came into my shop. The owner was at his wit’s end. The dome lights would randomly turn on while driving, the radio would shut off, and the power door locks worked intermittently. He’d already replaced the driver’s door lock switch and a battery, with no success. After hooking up the scan tool, I saw several communication error codes (U-codes) pointing to the BCM. Instead of a complex wiring issue, the BCM’s internal logic was failing. We installed a VIN-programmed BCM just like this one, and within an hour, every single one of his electrical gremlins was gone. It’s a common failure, but thankfully, it’s a straightforward fix with the right part.
Is Your GM Vehicle Showing These Symptoms?
- ✔ Erratic or non-functional interior/exterior lights (headlights, dome lights, dash lights).
- ✔ Power windows, power door locks, or power mirrors not working correctly.
- ✔ The security system light stays on, or the alarm goes off randomly.
- ✔ The radio or instrument cluster intermittently loses power.
- ✔ Communication error codes stored, such as U0140 (Lost Communication With Body Control Module).
- ✔ The horn honks unexpectedly or doesn’t work at all.
A Straightforward Guide to Installation
- ✔ Safety First: Always disconnect the negative terminal from your vehicle’s battery before starting any electrical work.
- ✔ Locate the BCM: On Silverado and Sierra pickups, the BCM is typically found under the driver’s side of the steering column. For Express and Savana vans, it’s usually located behind the center dash panel.
- ✔ Disconnect and Remove: Carefully unplug the electrical connectors from the old BCM. They have locking tabs that need to be depressed. Once disconnected, unbolt or unclip the old module and remove it.
- ✔ Install the New BCM: Mount your new, pre-programmed BCM in the same location and securely plug in all the electrical connectors. You should hear a ‘click’ as they lock into place.
- ✔ Reconnect and Test: Reconnect the negative battery terminal. Turn the key to the ‘On’ position and test all body functions—lights, locks, windows, radio, etc.—to ensure everything is working as it should.
- ✔ Post-Installation Checks: In some cases, you may need to perform a relearn procedure. If your airbag light is on, a scan tool is needed to perform the ‘Setup SDM Primary Key in BCM’ procedure. A Brake Pedal Position relearn may also be required for proper brake light and traction control operation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to send my old BCM back?
No, there is no core charge for this part. You can keep your original module.
How do I provide my VIN for programming?
After you complete your purchase, you will need to send us your vehicle’s 17-digit VIN. We cannot ship the module until we receive this information, as the programming is essential for it to work in your vehicle.
Is this BCM truly plug-and-play?
For most functions, yes. Because it’s pre-programmed to your VIN, it will control the main body functions right after installation. However, as with any BCM replacement, some vehicles may require additional sync procedures for the airbag or brake systems, which require a professional scan tool.
What happens if my airbag light comes on after installation?
This is a known possibility. It means the new BCM needs to be electronically ‘introduced’ to the airbag system’s computer (SDM). A repair shop with a capable bidirectional scan tool will need to perform the ‘Setup SDM Primary Key in BCM’ procedure to sync the modules and turn off the light.
Will this fix my specific electrical problem?
This module corrects faults originating within the BCM itself. While it resolves the most common electrical issues like erratic lights and accessory failures, it’s crucial to ensure your vehicle has been properly diagnosed. This part will not fix issues caused by bad wiring, faulty switches, or other components.
