- Safety First: Disconnect the negative terminal from your vehicle’s battery and secure it away from the post.
- Locate the PCM: On most compatible trucks and SUVs (like the Silverado, Tahoe, and Yukon), the PCM is located under the hood on the driver’s side, typically mounted to a bracket below the battery tray. You may need to remove the air intake box for easier access.
- Disconnect the Harnesses: The PCM has several large electrical connectors, often color-coded. They have locking levers or tabs. Carefully lift the levers to release the connectors and pull them straight out. Never force them.
- Remove the Old PCM: Unbolt the PCM from its mounting bracket and remove it from the vehicle.
- Install the New PCM: Mount your new, pre-programmed PCM onto the bracket and securely reconnect the electrical harnesses. Ensure they click firmly into place. Reinstall any other components you removed, like the airbox.
- Reconnect Battery: Reattach the negative battery terminal.

- Turn the key to the “ON” position (do not start the engine).
- Observe the “Security” or lock symbol light on the dash. It will be on or flashing.
- Leave the key in the “ON” position for approximately 10-11 minutes. The security light will turn off.
- Turn the key to “OFF” for 10 seconds.
- Repeat this cycle two more times for a total of three 10-minute cycles.
- After the third cycle is complete, the vehicle has learned the new PCM. Turn the key off, then start the engine. It should now run normally.
