Is Your GM Vehicle Experiencing Unexplained Engine Problems?
If you’re dealing with frustrating issues like intermittent stalling, a persistent check engine light, poor fuel economy, or a vehicle that simply won’t start, a failing Engine Control Module (ECM) is often the culprit. As a technician with over two decades of experience under the hood, I’ve seen how a faulty ECM can turn a reliable vehicle into a source of constant headaches. It’s the brain of your engine, and when it starts to malfunction, the symptoms can be confusing and difficult to diagnose.
The Smart, Cost-Effective Solution for Your Repair
Instead of paying dealership prices for a new module and expensive programming fees, this is your direct-fit solution. This is a thoroughly tested, used OEM Engine Control Module with service number 12669908. The most significant benefit? We program it specifically to your vehicle’s VIN before it leaves our facility. This means it arrives loaded with the correct, most current GM calibrations for your exact vehicle, saving you a critical and costly step at the repair shop.

Simple Installation Guide
Replacing the ECM is a straightforward job for a seasoned DIYer or any professional technician. While specific locations vary slightly by model, the general process is consistent.
- Safety First: Disconnect the negative terminal from your vehicle’s battery and secure it away from the post.
- Locate the ECM: On most compatible models like the Equinox, Malibu, and Blazer, the ECM is found in the engine compartment, typically on the driver’s side (LH side).
- Disconnect Connectors: Carefully release the locking tabs on the wiring harness connectors and pull them straight out from the module. Do not force them.
- Remove the Old Module: Unbolt the old ECM from its mounting bracket.
- Install the New Module: Mount your replacement ECM, reconnect the wiring harnesses until they click securely in place, and finally, reconnect your battery terminal.
Important: Post-Installation Relearn Procedures
This is a critical step. Because this ECM is programmed to your VIN, it is ready to communicate with your vehicle’s systems. However, for security reasons, a Vehicle Theft Deterrent System Relearn is often required. I’ve walked countless customers through this; it’s a standard security handshake between the new ECM and your car’s immobilizer.
If your vehicle does not start after installation, this relearn procedure must be performed by a qualified technician using the official GM programming software (TIS2Web). Additionally, other system initializations, such as a crankshaft position variation relearn or injector flow rate programming, may be necessary depending on your specific vehicle and the codes present. This is the responsibility of the installer and is standard practice for this type of repair.
