Simple Installation Guide
You don’t need to be a master mechanic to install this part. With basic hand tools, you can get your car back on the road.
- Safety First: Always disconnect the negative terminal from your car’s battery before starting any electrical work.
- Locate the Module: On most of these vehicles (like the Achieva, Grand Am, and Century), the PCM is located inside the cabin, behind the right side of the dashboard or near the glove box. On vans like the Venture and Silhouette, it’s often in the engine compartment.
- Disconnect & Remove: Carefully unclip the electrical harness connectors. They have locking tabs that need to be released. Then, unbolt the old module from its mounting bracket.
- Install the New PCM: Seat the new module in the bracket, tighten the bolts, and firmly reconnect the electrical harnesses until they click into place.
- Reconnect Battery & Start: Reattach the negative battery terminal. The vehicle may require a simple security relearn procedure (often turning the key to ‘ON’ for 10 minutes, then off, repeated 3 times) to sync with the new module.
