Is Your GM Truck or Van Sidelined? Get it Back on the Road Fast.

If your late-90s Chevy, GMC, Cadillac, or Isuzu is suffering from baffling electrical gremlins, a no-start condition, or a persistent check engine light, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is often the culprit. As the brain of your vehicle, when it fails, it can cause a cascade of problems that are frustrating to diagnose. This isn’t just an inconvenience; for a workhorse like an Express or Savana van, it’s downtime that costs you money. This is a reliable, tested, and VIN-programmed OEM PCM that serves as a direct-fit solution for your vehicle.

Why Choose Our Pre-Programmed 1998-1999 Express 2500 PCM?

Forget the exorbitant costs and scheduling headaches of a dealership visit. We take a high-quality, used OEM computer and flash it with the latest official GM software updates tailored specifically to your vehicle’s VIN. This means it arrives at your door ready for installation, saving you hundreds of dollars and significant time.

From My 20+ Years on the Shop Floor…
“A customer’s ’99 Chevy Suburban came in last week with a classic no-communication issue. The scan tool wouldn’t connect, and the fuel pump wouldn’t prime—dead in the water. After confirming all fuses and grounds were solid (always my first step with these symptoms), we pinpointed a failed PCM. The internal voltage regulator had given out, a common failure point on these units after decades of heat cycles. Swapping in a VIN-programmed module like this one had it starting and running perfectly in under 30 minutes. It’s a fix I’ve performed hundreds of times on these GMT400 and Express platforms.”

Simple Installation: Get Back to Work

Installing this PCM is a straightforward job for a DIYer with basic tools. Follow these steps to get your vehicle operational again.

  1. Safety First: Always disconnect the negative terminal from your vehicle’s battery before starting any electrical work.
  2. Locate the PCM: On most of these trucks and vans (like the Express, Savana, Tahoe, and pickups), the PCM is located in the engine compartment, typically on the driver’s side inner fender or near the battery.
  3. Disconnect the Connectors: Carefully unclip and remove the wiring harness connectors from the old PCM. Inspect the pins on the harness side for any corrosion or damage and clean them if necessary.
  4. Remove the Old Module: Unbolt the old PCM from its mounting bracket and remove it from the vehicle.
  5. Install the New Module: Mount your new, pre-programmed PCM in the same location and secure it with the original bolts.
  6. Reconnect Everything: Plug the wiring harness connectors firmly into the new PCM. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  7. Perform Security Relearn: Your vehicle is equipped with a GM Passlock security system. You MUST perform the simple, 30-minute relearn procedure for the engine to start. See instructions below.

Required GM Passlock Security Relearn Procedure

Do not skip this step! The engine will not run without it.

  1. Insert the key and turn the ignition to the “ON” position (do not start the engine). The security light should be on or flashing.
  2. Leave the key in the “ON” position for approximately 10-11 minutes, or until the security light turns off.
  3. Once the light turns off, turn the ignition completely “OFF” and wait 10 seconds.
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 two more times for a total of three 10-minute cycles.
  5. After the third cycle, the vehicle has relearned the new PCM. It should now start and run normally.
