Is Your Truck Exhibiting These 4WD Faults?
Real-World Repair Story: A Common TCCM Misdiagnosis
A customer brought in his ’11 Silverado 2500, convinced he needed a new transfer case encoder motor. Another shop quoted him nearly a thousand dollars for the part and labor. The truck wouldn’t shift into 4WD, and the lights on the switch were dead. Before ordering the expensive motor, I hooked up my scan tool. I couldn’t even communicate with the TCCM—a classic sign of module failure, not a mechanical fault. Instead of a major repair, we installed a pre-programmed Sierra 1500 Transfer Case Module. The total job took less than 30 minutes, the 4WD system came back to life, and the customer saved hundreds. It’s a textbook example of why proper diagnosis is key.
